BREAKING: Israel launches airstrike on residential area in Qatar

Attacks attempted to assinate Hamas leadership, who were there discussing the most recent US ceasefire proposal.

On Sept. 9, Israel launched an airstrike on the City of Doha, Qatar, targeting Hamas leadership as they were discussing US President Donald Trump's ceasefire proposal.
This attack makes Qatar the sixth arab country that Israel has bombed in the past month, on top of regular attacks on Gaza, the West Bank, Yemen, Syria and Lebanon. Since the break of dawn, Israel has killed 52 Palestinians, and millions are still being starved by Israel's manmade famine.

According to Hamas, leaders in the area were unharmed after Israel’s attack. However, a Qatar security officer was killed alongside six others, and Israel’s airstrikes wounded multiple.

“This criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms,” a spokesperson for Qatar said in an official statement. “While the State of Qatar strongly condemns this assault, it confirms that it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior and the ongoing disruption of regional security, nor any act that targets its security and sovereignty.”

Reporters on the scene said the targeted region contained several foreign embassies, schools and is home to many civilians. Many countries in Europe, the African Union, Cuba, Venezuela, Canada and countries in the surrounding area have condemned the attack. The UN Security Council is meeting tomorrow in New York to host an emergency meeting at the request of Pakistan and Algeria.

The White House said they were informed of the attack. During a press conference earlier today, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed Trump “immediately directed” Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform Qatar of the imminent attack.

However, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said they were never warned of the attack. Qatar and the US have long been allies, but given the US’s own ties to Israel, whether or not Trump knew of the attacks in advance has huge implications.

In his first verbal comments since the attack, Trump said he was “not thrilled” and believes this attack “does not advance Israel or America’s goals.” He will give a full statement tomorrow.
