How Tigray war rape victims turned to Rwandan genocide survivors to heal

(Al Jazeera)

In Rwanda, the women-to-women groups have helped survivors regain their humanity and self-esteem, Mukamana said. “One of the signs of sexual violence is a feeling of shame and guilt. But if women can manage to talk and see that the shame belongs to the persecutor, it really helps them. The perpetrator wanted to dehumanise them, but the group helps them to reclaim their humanity, to feel understood, validated and respected,” she explained.

Women-to-women listening circles help heal trauma after brutal war left many with deep physical and psychological scars.

Trump’s missile announcement provides vital relief to Ukraine – but lack of stricter sanctions against Russia stings

(London) CNN

Whatever the precise reality of the arms package NATO eventually affords, it is exactly what Trump suggested at the weekend and exactly what Ukraine needs. The nightly barrage of Russian ballistic missiles can only be stopped by US Patriot missiles, and only the White House can authorize their supply. Ukraine was short of these, and other sophisticated American weapons that may not have been referenced by name and may be included in the deal. This is short-term, vital relief.

Congress targeted Planned Parenthood for defunding, but also caught a Maine health care provider

(AP)

An item in Republicans’ sweeping policy and tax bill intended to block Medicaid dollars from flowing to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion provider, is also hitting a major medical provider in Maine.

Maine Family Planning filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration Wednesday seeking to restore the reimbursements.

Accessing health care in Maine — one of the Northeast’s poorest states and its most rural — is a challenge in areas far from population centers such as Portland and Bangor.

White House to Release $1.3 Billion in Frozen Funds for After-School Programs

(New York Times)

The Trump administration said Friday that it would release $1.3 billion in frozen federal funding for after-school programs across the country, after facing growing bipartisan pressure.

The Trump administration, which wants to slash spending and reduce the federal government’s role in education, had abruptly withheld the money, along with billions in other education dollars. It said it was conducting a review and had found instances of federal dollars being “grossly misused to subsidize a radical left-wing agenda.”

@repmaxwellfrost I spoke on the House floor to shine a light on a moral atrocity — an internment camp that Trump and his Administration have propped up deep in the Florida Everglades. It’s disgusting, it’s un-American, and I will do everything in my power to make sure it does not continue. #usnews #ushouse #congress #immigration #immigrantrights #immigrant #detentioncenter #ice #everglades #florida #houseofrepresentatives #news ♬ original sound - Congressman Maxwell Frost

ICE agents detained immigrants at the San Antonio Immigration Court Friday as they made their scheduled court appearances to have their asylum cases heard. Many of them had their cases dismissed by a judge, according to attorneys, and when they walked out of the courtroom, federal agents were waiting to take them into custody. ICE says these arrests are part of the Trump administration's efforts to ramp up daily arrests and deportations, evoking fear from those who have upcoming court appearances. Two department of homeland security officials tell CBS News ICE is asking immigration judges across the country to dismiss the court cases of certain migrants so the agency could arrest them once their hearings end and place them in a fast-track deportation process known as expedited removal. According to immigration attorney Belinda Arroyo, targeting migrants at the courthouse used to be a rare event. " It makes everybody be on edge," she tells CBS News' Omar Villafranca.
